EDCTP Fourth Forum Report and 2007 Annual Report now available
EDCTP is happy to announce that its Fourth Forum Report and the 2007 Annual Report are now available online. The Forum report summarises EDCTP’s Fourth Forum that was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 22-24 October 2007. The Forum theme was Building Bridges for Better Health, and indeed it offered a great opportunity to explore synergy and establish or reinforce cooperation in conducting clinical trials on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

The EDCTP Fourth Forum
The EDCTP Fourth Forum under the theme Building Bridges for Better Health came at an exciting time when EDCTP had just implemented its new strategy of integrated calls, and had intensified its activities with the intention to Deliver More and Faster. During the Forum, various speakers presented an overview of ongoing clinical trials on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. Furthermore, Forum participants identified future priorities, particularly with respect to the promotion of South-South, North-South and North-North networking activities.

EDCTP’s Annual Report 2007
In the year 2007, our aim was to Deliver More and Faster in the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. The new EDCTP strategy for integrated calls greatly helped in reaching this goal. As a result of the new strategy during 2007 EDCTP launched 11 calls to the value of € 180 million.

The year 2007 was also the year of a very sharp increase in EDCTP Member State cofunding of projects, which was a major contributing factor behind the overall increase of funding, and also an important sign of Member State commitment to the Partnership. In parallel, partnership with African scientists has progressed well and African leadership in identifying gaps and priorities in medical research has become a sine qua non for EDCTP’s funding allocation.
