EDCTP Newsletter October 2008

Published on 14 November 2008

The EDCTP October 2008 Newsletter has been sent out and is now also available on the website. In this issue of the newsletter, the first announcement of the Fifth EDCTP Forum is included. The Forum will take place on 12-14 October 2009 in Arusha, Tanzania and it will showcase results from EDCTP funded projects. It will also offer a unique opportunity for political and scientific leaders in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria to network and create or strengthen international collaborations. The newsletter also reflects on EDCTP’s fifth anniversary on 15 September 2008 and gives reference to the movie on EDCTP’s past, present and future.

There is an overview of calls open for applications, part of which have a deadline of 30 November 2008, and vacancies for PB and DCCC members which are also open until 30 November 2008. Furthermore, there is a brief report on the TB Diagnosis stakeholder meeting in Paris on 7 October 2008. The table of funded projects for this newsletter includes no less than 13 projects in Senior Fellowships, Strengthening of Ethics Committees & Institutional Review Boards and the regulatory environment in Africa. EDCTP grantee AMANET is highlighted in this newsletter, launching its fourth web-base training in ethics: a free online course available through the website http://www.amanet-trust.org.

Site visit articles include visits to Mali, Senegal and South Africa. Finally, EDCTP’s High Representative Pascoal Mocumbi visited the African union (AU) in September and discussed among others the allocation of development funds to clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa.
