Marjolein has a background in infectious diseases, and before joining EDCTP as a project officer she did a PhD project in Leiden identifying possible new diagnostic antigens for the parasitic disease Schistosomiasis mansoni. She studied Biomedical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and went to study at the University of Edinburgh as part of her Masters.
