EDCTP Forum

Fifth EDCTP Forum - 12-14 October 2009, Arusha, Tanzania

The Fifth EDCTP Forum carries the theme Fighting HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: One World, One Partnership. This Forum presents a unique opportunity to share information and reflect not only on the investment made on products, but on personnel and populations (people) alike. Clinical research and clinical trials for poverty-related diseases, insufficiently addressed in the past but growing now, are the main priority for this forum. However for clincial trials to be conducted to the highest standards in developing countries themselves, and for the products coming out of these trials to actually be delivered through appropriate health systems, partnerships are crucial. The Fifth EDCTP Forum provides an important platform to create new partnerships and enhance existing ones by bringing together scientists at various stages of their careers, product developers, representatives from research funding organisations, policy makers and other partners.

Second Annual EDCTP Forum - 3-5 October 2005, Durban, South Africa

The main aim of the Second Forum of EDCTP held in Durban, South Africa, on 3-5 October 2005, was to come up with considering recommendations on how EDCTP can do more and better in terms of the theme of the meeting, namely 'HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria in Africa: From Knowledge to Implementation'. An agreed strategy would also serve the broader objectives of partnerships that drive a global health agenda and consequently would aim to promote prosperity and solidarity, ensuring long-term success and a better quality of life for future generations.

First EDCTP Annual Forum - 27-29 September 2004

The 1st Annual EDCTP Forum gathered scientists from Africa and Europe, international organisations and policymakers to share information and views as to how optimally address the challenges of interventions to control HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa.
    Specific objectives are:

    • To identify gaps in knowledge, particularly around the needs and opportunities in Africa to conduct trials of drugs, vaccines and microbicides against the 3 poverty-related diseases.
    • To identify approaches and priorities for capacity strengthening to facilitate the conduct of high quality clinical trials.
    • To identify areas where EDCTP can collaborate with other organisations in seeking to achieve its goals.
    • To identify the possibilities for collaboration between European and African research programmes related to clinical trials and capacity development.
