Gail Smith was born in Cape Town, South Africa.  She obtained an Honors Degree in Social Sciences at the University of the Western Cape, where she also worked as administrator for a number of years.  Prior to her joining EDCTP she was extensively involved in non-government organizations where she used her skills as administrator as well as counseling people from the impoverished communities of the Cape Flats area. Gail joined the EDCTP team at their Africa Office in April 2008 where she manages the administrative and operational functions of the office.
