General Assembly members

On 14 May the EEIG-EDCTP General Assembly took place in The Hague. At the meeting, of the Assembly approved funding of over € 80 M was approved for various projects on:

  • Tuberculosis Vaccines
  • Malaria Treatment
  • Malaria in Pregnancy
  • Malaria Vaccines
  • Ethics Review Capacity
  • WHO regulatory affairs
  • Networks of Excellence
  • Senior Fellowships

This decision from the EDCTP General Assembly underpins the commitment of the EDCTP-EEIG Member States and the European Commission in the fight against the three main poverty-related diseases in and for Africa. It also supports African leadership in the Partnership, since among the 26 projects approved for funding 22 have African scientists based in Africa as their principal investigators.

Another highlight of the meeting was the decision to hold a Fifth EDCTP Forum in Arusha, Tanzania in October 2009. Also, GA members were invited to join the EDCTP team on their site visits to develop advocacy between the Member States and African partners.
