About the Blog

The Fifth EDCTP Forum Blog is an addition to the Fifth EDCTP Forum website (www.edctpforum2009.org). It provides updated information about the Forum’s activities as they happen, including summaries of the plenary and parallel sessions, and other activities like electronic and paper poster presentations, satellite meetings and social events. The blog will also feature podcasts, videos and plenty of photographs.

We hope that you can also share your views on the topics discussed at the forum in this blog – feel free to leave your comments!

About the Forum

The theme of the forum – Fighting HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: One World, One Partnership – reflects the global call for all partners and stakeholders to work in unison and synergy to contain and possibly rid the world the scourge of these diseases of poverty.

The Fifth EDCTP Forum presents a unique opportunity to share information and reflect not only on the investment made on products, but on personnel and populations (people) alike. Clinical research and clinical trials for poverty-related diseases, insufficiently addressed in the past but growing now, are the main priority for this forum. However for clinical trials to be conducted to the highest standards in developing countries themselves, and for the products coming out of these trials to actually be delivered through appropriate health systems, partnerships are crucial. The Fifth EDCTP Forum provides an important platform to create new partnerships and enhance existing ones by bringing together scientists at various stages of their careers, product developers, representatives from research funding organisations, policy makers and other partners.

The forum will also offer a chance for young scientists to present their work. This will be in various formats including electronic posters, round-table discussions and plenary sessions. Additionally, there will be a series of keynote addresses on topical issues presented by various invited speakers from both the North and South. The focus will always be on real-life situations, experiences and practical examples.
