Establishment of RECs and capacity building of human resources and infrastructure in Nigeria

The project will establish a new Research Ethics Committees (RECs) in Ambrose Ali University and Mainland Hospital Yaba in Nigeria to enhance the capacity of medical personnel to effectively conduct ethically regulated research of international standard. Participants will be trained on Human Subject Protection and Ethical Review of Research Protocol as recommended by the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC). Pre and post test to evaluate participants’ performance will be used. The REC appointed from trained participants will be given a well equipped office. This will be followed by mentoring at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) by existing Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). These would give them adequate confidence and independent to review and monitor research activities.
