EDCTP is pleased to announce the 60 bursaries that were awarded to attend the 4th Annual Forum in Ouagadougou. The scientists that have been given bursaries were already contacted by the Programme Committee of the forum and will present their scientific work in electronic presentations (pragster). The Fourth EDCTP Annual Forum, 22-24 October 2007, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Building Bridges for Better Health

The Fourth EDCTP Annual Forum will be held from 22 to 24 October 2007 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The theme of the forum is ‘Building Bridges for Better Health.’  This will be on the three main poverty-related diseases namely HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and will focus on the following sub-themes:

  1. On-going clinical trials in Africa
  2. Networks in Africa
  3. Challenges in building capacities in Africa
    1. Regulatory and ethics environment
    2. Networks and Nodes of excellence

Purpose
The main objectives of the forum are to have an overview of on-going clinical trials on the 3 main diseases of HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in Africa and to promote South-South and North-South and North-North networking activities.

Format
The forum will consist of keynote addresses by invited keynote speakers, oral plenary presentations, group workshops, posters sessions. The forum language will be English.

Call for oral and electronic presentations
Invitations are open for the presentation of current research by oral presentation at the parallel sessions or electronic presentations.
The electronic presentations will be in the form of eight condensed summary slides prepared using MS PowerPoint. The first slide shall include title, authors (with the name of the presenting author underlined), and affiliations. The following slides should contain objectives, methods, results, capacity building activities, networking activities, conclusion and acknowledgements.
These will be presented and discussed at allotted times at various computer stations during coffee and lunch breaks throughout the forum.

Registration

Due to the limitation in number who can attend, intending participants are advised to register early on www.edctp.org/forum2007. A registration fee of € 200 will be required for participants from non-developing countries. The registration fee will cover forum materials, coffees and lunches.

Bursary
A limited number of bursaries will be provided (to cover costs for travel, accommodation and subsistence) for registered individuals from any of the developing countries in the sub-Sahara Africa region. Preference will be given to those who have submitted presentations. Application for a bursary is included in the registration form which is found on www.edctp.org/forum2007.
