Executive Director

This vacancy is closed.

The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing clinical trials research on poverty-related diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa – HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and certain neglected infectious diseases. The organisation is funded by a 10-year-grant from the European Union, by the individual member countries of the EDCTP Association, and by other partners. EDCTP recently launched its second programme (EDCTP2) after the re-commitment of the EU and the expansion of its membership base to include 13 African countries.

EDCTP invites nominations and applications for the role of Executive Director.

Reporting to the Board and the General Assembly, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the EDCTP2 programme and for the leadership of its administrative organisation, the Secretariat, which is based in two locations, the Europe office in The Hague, The Netherlands, and the Africa Office in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Executive Director leads the Partnership in its work with all its stakeholders and constituents. Building strong and effective partnerships with public- and private-sector stakeholders, the ED will encourage greater involvement of the participating states in funding activities within the scope of EDCTP2.

Specific qualifications
Specific qualifications for the Executive Director include an MD or PhD; experience with clinical trials; professional experience in developing countries (preferably in sub-Saharan Africa); excellent skills in communications, public relations, and relationship management along with a strong sense of diplomacy; the ability to navigate complex organisational structures; financial management experience; the poise and credibility to be an effective leader of the EDCTP partnership in a wide range of settings; experience building research partnerships and collaborations, particularly with international research funding agencies or Product Development Partnerships; and unimpeachable personal and professional integrity.
