EDCTP welcomed its new Director of Finance and Administration early September. Mr. Abdoulie Barry (The Gambia) joined the management team of the organisation and will head the Finance and Administration Department. He has extensive experience in financial management, auditing, installation of financial management systems and management of donor funded projects. He is a member of both the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Chartered Association of Management Accountants (ACMA). He also holds an MBA from the University of Manchester.
Abdoulie Barry worked for major accountancy and consultancy firms. In this period he was responsible for implementing computerized accounting systems and for financial and IT audits. With the MRC (UK) The Gambia he developed extensive knowledge of and experience with the auditing and financial management of international donor funded projects. For his MBA degree, he wrote a thesis on Activity-Based Management (ABM) in a sub-Saharan research site, discussing how financial systems can be used to support the successful implementation of an ABM system. He also gave seminars on international accounting and auditing standards and carried out varied consultancy assignments for international organisations such as World Bank, African Development Bank and UNDP.
The primary responsibility of the Director of Finance and Administration is to assist the Executive Director in managing the EDCTP Secretariat to ensure that it executes its mandate in line with the Statutes, Grant Agreement, Internal Regulations and other governing documents. Specifically, he will oversee and be responsible for all finance and administrative issues. The director heads the financial and administrative team and interacts closely with all EDCTP teams.
