EDCTP awards 2016 now open to nominations

The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) invites nominations to the following awards: Scientific Leadership Award, Outstanding Female Scientist Award and Outstanding Research Team Award. These awards aim to promote African-European scientific research collaboration, and will reward outstanding individual researchers and research teams especially from Africa and Europe. The award ceremonies will be held at the Eighth EDCTP Forum in Lusaka, Zambia, from 6-9 November 2016.

The Scientific Leadership Award is given to world-class scientists of up to 50 years of age, working and residing in sub-Saharan Africa. The prize (€10,000) should be used to further the research programmes of the award winner and may support activities such as study visits and training attachments to collaborating institutions, data collection for baseline studies, conference and meeting attendance, and other relevant research-related activities.

The Outstanding Female Scientist Award is given to world-class female scientists residing in sub-Saharan Africa and working in research activities within the scope of the second EDCTP programme. The prize (€20,000) should be used to further the research programmes of the award winner and may support activities towards training and mentorship of the future generation of researchers in Africa.

The Outstanding Research Team Award is given to outstanding research teams in Africa and Europe working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected infectious diseases in the scope of the second EDCTP programme. The prize (€50,000) should be used to further the research programmes of the award winners and may support activities such as study visits and training attachments to collaborating institutions, data collection for baseline studies, conference and meeting attendance, and other relevant research-related activities. The objective of this award is to encourage scientific/research excellence, translation of research into policy and practice, sustainable capacity development coupled with skills and technology transfer.

The awards are open to residents of a sub-Saharan African country, an EU Member State, or a country associated to the Horizon 2020 programme.

Nominations must be submitted online via EDCTPgrants by 8 August 2016 (extended deadline), 17:00 CET. The award ceremonies will take place at the Eighth EDCTP Forum.
