One Scholarship for MSc Clinical Trials by Distance Learning

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) invites applications for one scholarship to study the Distance Learning MSc Clinical Trials course commencing October 2013. This scholarship is offered by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). The MSc Clinical Trials course is run by the LSHTM, in collaboration with the University of London International Programmes.

Funding
The scholarship covers full tuition fees to study the Distance Learning MSc Clinical Trials, and a contribution towards local examination centre fees.

Criteria for the scholarship
This MSc Clinical Trials scholarship is available only to students who are a national of a sub-Saharan African country, employed by a sub-Saharan African institution with EDCTP supported projects and planning to stay working at that institution until two years after finishing the MSc. Female candidates and those from non-anglophone countries are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • The academic merit of the applicant (at least a 2:1 or equivalent first Honours undergraduate degree)
  • At least two years’ proven work experience in the clinical trials field
  • How the skills and qualification obtained from the MSc Clinical Trials would benefit both the applicant and their institution, with respect to current and/or future employment
  • Impact on the development of the applicant’s home country.

 

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Complete a minimum number of modules each year of the course
  • Give regular feedback to LSHTM
  • Co-operate with any programme evaluations for the duration of their scholarship and for a period of up to five years after completion of the course.

How to Apply
If you have already received an offer of a place on the MSc Clinical Trials course, you should send your scholarship application form to the University of London International Programmes using their online Student Advice Centre form.

Those wishing to be considered for the scholarship who have not already received an offer of a place on the MSc Clinical Trials course, should immediately apply online for the MSc Clinical Trials course.

Please note that whilst the online application form does say ‘intended entry year 2014/15’, your application will still be considered for the 2013/14 intake. When completing the online application please upload scans of your verified documents, more information on verification can be found on this page.

Please also upload two letters of references that have been specifically written for this application. You will also need to include the full contact details of your referees as we may contact them to verify the reference letters. Alternatively you can ask your referees to send a scan of their signed reference letter to references[at]london.ac.uk. Please note that neither your MSc course application nor your scholarship application can be considered without two reference letters.

The scholarship application form should be completed and attached to the online course application. When completing the ‘Fee’ question of the online form, please indicate that you are applying for the EDCTP scholarship.

Deadline for scholarship applications
The deadline for receipt of scholarship applications (including all application documentation and letters of reference) is 30 September 2013.

This scholarship is only available to those wishing to study the MSc Clinical Trials course – it is not available to those wishing to take the Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Clinical Trials.

Selection of the candidate
Scholarship applications will be considered in early October by a sub-panel of the LSHTM Scholarships Committee.
