Proceedings of the EDCTP Stakeholder Meetings on Health Research Ethics and Regulatory Affairs published

Today, the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) published the report of its Stakeholder Meetings on Health Research Ethics and Regulatory Affairs. The meetings were held in Antwerp, Belgium, on 28 and 29 November 2013, as part of the preparations for the second EDCTP programme. The stakeholder meetings were co-hosted by the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM).

The EDCTP Stakeholder Meeting on Health Research Ethics was held on 28 November 2013 and was attended by 56 participants from research institutions, funders and international organisations.

The following expected outcomes had been set for the first day of the meeting:

  • Review of the current status of ethics capacity in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Results from an external evaluation of the EDCTP1 ethics programme
  • Identification of key ethics capacity gaps, opportunities and barriers to progress
  • Recommendations that will contribute towards the EDCTP strategy for supporting ethics capacity development.

 

The EDCTP Stakeholder Meeting on Regulatory Affairs was held on 29 November 2014 and was attended by approximately 57 participants from research institutions, the pharmaceutical industry, national and international regulatory bodies and international organisations.

The following expected outcomes had been set for this meeting:

  • Review of the current status of regulatory capacity in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Identification of key regulatory capacity gaps, opportunities and barriers to progress
  • Recommendations that will contribute towards the EDCTP strategy for supporting regulatory capacity development.

EDCTP held other stakeholder meetings on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections, malaria and neglected infectious diseases. In 2014, a stakeholder meeting will be held on capacity building. The Stakeholder Meeting on Capacity Development will take place in Berlin on 3 July 2014.
