EDCTP and Wellcome Trust organise session at ASTMH 2018

EDCTP and the Wellcome Trust organised a session on controlled Human Infection Studies in low- and middle-income countries as a contribution to the ASTMH 2018 programme. The symposium (session 169) takes place on 1 November from 08:00-09:45. The annual meeting of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene is held in New Orleans, USA .

The symposium is chaired by Dr Pauline Beattie (EDCTP Operations Manager) and Dr Mike Turner (Wellcome Trust).

Controlled human infection studies studies involve the deliberate infection of healthy human volunteers with disease-causing agents. Therefore, these studies require strong scientific and ethical justification and oversight.
