Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Conakry and Rwanda join EDCTP Association

31 August 2022

EDCTP is pleased to welcome the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Conakry and Rwanda on board as the newest member countries of the EDCTP Association. The Democratic Republic of the Congo will be represented in the EDCTP General Assembly by Dr Julien Ntaongo Alendi, Faculté de Médecin, Université de Kinshasa and Prof. Placide Mbala Kingebeni, Institut National de Recherche Biomédicales, Ministère de la Santé Publique, Hygiène et Prévention. The representatives for Guinea-Conakry and Rwanda will be appointed and announced soon.

“The participation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Conakry and Rwanda in the EDCTP Association brings the total number of African member countries up to 21. A firm representation of African countries in the partnership will ensure a broader and increasing research base, more people gaining access to new medical interventions, and increasing protection of regional and global health security. The new memberships also strengthen the regional and language balance in the Association, true to our goal to serve all regions of sub-Saharan Africa.”

Dr Michael Makanga, EDCTP Executive Director

The Democratic Republic of Congo formally submitted an expression of interest in joining the EDCTP Association in June 2022, with its admittance approved by the Association members on 22 August 2022.
