EC invites feedback on next EDCTP programme

14 August 2019

The European Commission seeks feedback from citizens and stakeholders on its outline for an EDCTP successor programme. This is one of the early steps in the process of creating a future EDCTP programme under the umbrella of the next European Framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe (2021-2027). The deadline for this early round of feedback is 27 August 2019.

The so-called Inception Impact Assessment for the ‘EU-Africa Global Health Partnership (Horizon Europe programme)’ gives a summary overview of the European Commission’s understanding of the global health problem arising from infectious diseases, the objectives of the initiative to address it, and the possible approaches to organise a partnership that will have the most impact.

“I encourage all our stakeholders - in Europe, Africa and elsewhere - to take this early opportunity to give your feedback and help to inform the development of a future EDCTP programme.”

Dr Michael Makanga, EDCTP Executive Director

The document gives an overview of the global health context, the rationale for an EU initiative, the causes of the problem, and details the policy options, particularly the various forms a future partnership could take. Finally, it summarises the expected impact of an ‘EU-Africa Global Health Partnership’

Feedback will be considered for further development and fine-tuning of the initiative. The Commission will summarise the input received in a report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can’t be taken up.

Feedback received will be published on the European Commission website and therefore must adhere to the feedback rules.
