EDCTP Association at the INTEREST Conference 2026

Dr Blandina T. Mmbaga presenting at the Grantspersonship Workshop
The 20th International Conference on HIV Treatment, Pathogenesis, and Prevention Research (INTEREST 2026), was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 12-15 May 2026, reaffirmed its critical role as Africa’s premier scientific meeting focused on HIV. Convening a dynamic mix of researchers, clinicians, policymakers, community advocates, and emerging scientists, the conference provided a vital platform for dissecting challenges and showcasing advancements in the HIV response within resource-limited settings.
Through a rich tapestry of plenary lectures, abstract-driven presentations, specialised symposia, a thought-provoking debate, and skill-building workshops, the conference aimed to accelerate the translation of scientific discovery into tangible public health gains. Over four days, a densely packed programme covered the breadth of HIV research, from basic science to clinical management, prevention strategies, and public health policy, reflecting the depth and dynamism of the field.
The EDCTP Association was represented by Nuraan Fakier, Project Officer (EDCTP Africa Office). The EDCTP Association, together with Global Health EDCTP3, represented by Lara Pandya, Team Leader, Strategic Partnerships and Communications, hosted a Grantspersonship Workshop on 14 May 2026. The session included an overview of Global Health EDCTP3 funding opportunities and grant writing tips. The role of the EDCTP Association as Coordinator of Global Health EDCTP grants was also outlined.
Participants were guided step by step through the process of applying for a grant via the EU Funding and Tenders portal. EDCTP grantee Dr Blandina T. Mmbaga from the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) also shared her experience from the grantee perspective on applying for grants and managing awarded projects.
